Devanagari + Latin Studies

Devanagari + Latin Studies — Typography Study

Summary

A running personal project exploring how Devanagari and Latin script can share a single visual voice — poster studies I use to sharpen typography for client work.

Design decision

Most bilingual layouts I see treat one script as primary and the other as translation. In these studies both scripts share a baseline and optical weight, so neither feels borrowed.

§ 01

Brief

A personal weekly practice: pick a phrase, set it in Devanagari and Latin at the same optical weight, and post the result. Constraints keep me honest.

§ 02

Approach

  1. A / 01

    Shared baseline

Both scripts sit on a common baseline and match in x-height. Neither script is dominant; both are the message.

  2. A / 02

    One weekly rule

Every study introduces one new constraint — a colour, a grid, a rotation — and holds the rest. The archive shows the rules stacking up.

  3. A / 03

    Feedback in public

Everything is posted to Instagram the same day. Comments become part of the next week's brief.

Voice
The studies are where my client typography actually gets better.
